Introducing the 2024 Black History Month Film Series

 Events
Dear [FIRST_NAME],

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to introduce the 2024 Black History Month Film Series.

Every February, we celebrate Black History Month by acknowledging the significant contributions and achievements of the Black community throughout history. This year, we have specially curated a film series to promote meaningful conversations and to educate the Loyola community about the rich, diverse, and often overlooked aspects of Black history.

Our 2024 Black History Month Film Series includes a selection of inspirational, thought-provoking, and empowering films that reflect the struggles and triumphs of African and African American individuals and communities. The series will highlight various themes, such as civil rights, faith, human rights, environmental justice, and redemption. We believe that these films will provoke constructive dialogue, foster understanding, and inspire action among our audience.

All members of the Loyola community are invited to join us on this journey of exploration and celebration of Black history. Each film will be followed by a facilitated discussion to unpack the presented themes and topics. Our aim is to create an inclusive space where everyone can engage, learn, and grow.

We invite you, the faculty, students, and other members of the Loyola community to participate in this event. We also encourage you to share this initiative with your network and invite them to join us.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to elevating and celebrating Black history and culture at Loyola. We look forward to celebrating Black History Month with you through our 2024 Black History Month Film Series.

Sincerely,

The Falconer is a story of second chances: for injured birds of prey, for an abandoned plot of land, for a group of teenagers who have dropped out of high school, and for Rodney Stotts. This documentary follows master falconer Rodney Stotts on his mission to build a bird sanctuary and provide access to nature for his community. The director weaves Rodney's mission with the story of his past, both of which are deeply rooted in issues of social and environmental injustice, and consistently orient the viewer to his worldview: nature heals.

A Q&A with Rodney Stotts and an educational bird of prey liaison from Rodney's Raptors will be held immediately after the film screening.

Free and open to the public.
