From: Natalie Cummins Date: March 1, 2023 Subject: March OSE Newsletter
General Updates/Reminders
Club/Organization Moderators, Leaders, and Officers: please share this newsletter with your members! They can access this newsletter on the RSO group page on The Bridge under the "Newsletters" tab, or on the RSO website under the "Upcoming Events," "Past Newsletters" tabs (link: https://bridge.loyola.edu/rso/home/).
Keep an eye out for RSO re-registration information; an email will be sent out on Monday, March 13th.
A reminder that moderators need to approve all event requests that students put in to The Bridge. Students should contact their moderator when an event has been submitted.
Clubs looking to request meeting space for every meeting through the end of the semester should not use the "recurring event" feature, but rather create one event and make a copy each time you need it. Unfortunately, when recurring events make it to Event Services, they can only see just one event, and doesn't allow them to copy the approved location to any of the other upcoming events. So while it's an additional step, it helps us ensure a location is reserved for each meeting/event, not just the first one.
Club of the Month: First Gen Hounds Alliance
First Gen Hounds Alliance has been selected for the OSE's March Club of the Month Spotlight! First Gen Hounds Alliance is an organization that wants to raise awareness about first generation college students at Loyola and connect these students with resources and opportunities to help them thrive at Loyola. First Gen Hounds also aims to educate the Loyola community about the concerns and needs of first-generation students and have those needs be met.
This past fall, First Gen Hounds Alliance hosted a celebration on President Sawyer's lawn to celebrate and raise awareness for first generation college students at Loyola. The Loyola community was invited to this event, and there were activities available like s'mores making and lawn games. First Gen Hounds is also excited for their upcoming event called "Nothing but NET," which is a networking event focused on helping first generation college students build their professional networks, on Friday, March 17th from 3:30-4:30pm at 117 Career Center Lab in the Fernandez Center.
If you are interested in joining First Gen Hounds Alliance, you can attend their next meeting after spring break that will be on Friday, March 31st at 3pm in Maryland Hall 240 or contact club officer Jamie Cashour at jncashour@loyola.edu. First Gen Hounds Alliance has recurring, biweekly meetings every Friday in Maryland Hall 240, and anyone can attend! Whether you're a first generation college student or a non-first generation college student who wants to be an ally, you are welcome to attend meetings and help spread awareness to Loyola's community!

March Workshop Opportunities
With four workshops remaining this semester (3 in March, 1 in April), you should be having conversations with your leadership team to determine who will represent your club at a workshop. Be mindful that this is a requirement as a registered student organization.
Read through the workshop descriptions and be sure to register for and attend at least one of the following workshops this semester! You can R.S.V.P. for any March workshops directly from this email below.
Graduating Seniors who complete their workshop requirement will hear from the Office of Student Engagement later in the semester for details on when and where to pick up your club leader pin.
EVENT
RSO Workshop: Talking the Walk Part 1: The Leadership Skills Employers are Looking For
Your leadership roles are helping you craft and hone powerful soft skills, and they are exactly the skills employers are looking for. Rizzo’s Career Readiness Team will help you identify the key competencies needed to be an attractive candidate in your career search and how you can translate your experiences as a student leader to help you stand out and achieve your career goals.
Club re-registration is an annual process for all student organizations. By re-registering, you tell Student Engagement your club will remain active for the following academic year, and share your new officer listing and membership. In this workshop, we will review what this process looks like, and share insights regarding how to make for a smooth officer transition. Attending this workshop will set your club up for success and easy transition when you return to campus in the fall!

Leadership Opportunities in the Office of Student Engagement
Become a RoadTrip Atlas!
The Office of Student Engagement is seeking applications for our RoadTrip Atlas leadership position. RoadTrip is Loyola’s longest sophomore tradition, and after a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, RoadTrip is back! Those who attend look forward to a weekend-long retreat where they have the opportunity to take a deep dive into their vocation and discernment.
One of the aspects of RoadTrip that make it so great are our student leader Atlases. Atlases are current sophomores and juniors who are committed to
the process of genuinely seeking sources of joy,
uncovering gifts and talents, and
examining ways to serve the world, both for themselves and with others.
As an Atlas you will guide student participants through small group discussions and give a brief talk on your own vocational discernment journey.
The full position description and responsibilities are included at the top of the application.
Questions can be directed to Katie Derreth, Assistant Director of Student Engagement (krderreth@loyola.edu).
Apply to be on the SGA Oversight Committee!
Any student looking for a leadership opportunity should consider applying to be a member of the SGA Oversight Committee (OC). The OC serves as a neutral, unbiased committee of undergraduate students, responsible for monitoring the Student Government Association election process and reviewing any potential violations of election policy. The OC is also responsible for providing oversight for any potential impeachment hearings within the organization.
This position is great for students interested in the election processes, leadership development, and government. All interested applicants must be in good judicial standing and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The application will be available until Friday, March 17th and can be accessed using the following link: SGA Oversight Committee Application.
Direct any questions to Becca Winkler (rkwinkler@loyola.edu).
Baltimore Collegetown: Industry Day
Collegetown is hosting a FREE-OF-COST Industry Day on Monday, April 3rd from 5-7pm to connect students with Baltimore's industry leaders.
The schedule for Industry Day is as follows:
5-5:30pm: Networking, professional photography, and light snacks
5:30-6:30pm: Industry day panel discussions with professionals
6:30-7pm: More networking and professional photography available for new profile pics!
Event updates: if you need to make any changes to an event that has already been approved, instead of making the change on your own, email bridge@loyola.edu and we can make the change for you. If you make the change on your own, your workflow will be reset to the beginning of the approval process which can delay your event approval process.
As a reminder, when you're submitting your event request, do not check "TBD" in the location box if you do not have a room reserved yet. Instead, leave the location blank and events will confirm a space for you.
The video above provides some general information about The Bridge platform and our expectations and preferred communication for student officer adjustments. We also review some of the main expectations for club moderators, and give an overview of our RSO website.
Feel free to review as needed. More videos to come!
