MEET ALANA SERVICES!

“Hello Class of 2025! My name is Dennis Velez, and I serve as the Associate Director of ALANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Native American) Services. If you aren’t familiar with our office, ALANA Services is committed to providing support, services, and programs that encourage the success of students of color at Loyola.

Through intentional programming and a broad spectrum of services, we seek to foster the academic, personal, spiritual, and leadership development of ALANA students. As a department, ALANA sponsors various programs to enrich and educate members of Loyola's campus community about issues related to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. Perhaps you’ve heard of the Multicultural Awareness Program (MAP), or the ALANA Mentoring Program (AMP). You might have attended Latin Fest or know a student who completed the Ignatius Scholars Program. All are part of the work of our office.

Maybe you’ve ventured out and spent time in the CIE, or the Center for Intercultural Engagement, a social and programming space located on the 3
rd Floor of the Student Center. It’s a space for our students to hang out, study, do homework, take a nap, socialize, or attend an ACE (Academic and Career Enrichment) Workshop, or enjoy some café con leche. Feel free to stop by our office, connect with us via The Bridge, or follow us on Instagram (@alana_services) to learn more and stay up to date with what we have going on!”

- Dennis Velez, Associate Director of ALANA Services
