How it works

The Sellinger Scholars Mentorship Program operates in two stages. First-year students are mentored by sophomores, establishing a peer support system where more experienced students guide newcomers through the initial challenges of their academic journey. As sophomores progress, they transition to being mentored by alumni, benefiting from the insights and real-world experiences of those who have successfully completed the program. This two-tiered approach ensures a comprehensive mentorship experience, combining the relatability of peer support with the seasoned guidance of alumni mentors, ultimately fostering both personal and professional development among participants.

Our Mentoring Process

Mentoring Pairing

The mentoring process begins with a comprehensive pairing process for both mentors and mentees. During this phase, participants, mentors and mentees are carefully matched based on their goals, interests, and skills, ensuring a synergistic and productive relationship.

Goal Setting and Planning

Once paired, mentors and mentees meet at the Fall Semester Opening Event. They collaborate to establish clear and achievable goals. This phase lays the foundation for a structured and purposeful mentoring journey, aligning the mentorship with the mentee's objectives.

Regular Meetings and Skill Development

Mentors and mentees commit to regular meetings, fostering consistent communication and progress tracking. These sessions provide a platform for discussing challenges, seeking advice, and sharing experiences.

Reflection and Evaluation

At defined intervals, both mentors and mentees engage in reflective practices to assess the effectiveness of the mentorship. This involves reviewing goals, accomplishments, and challenges faced throughout the mentoring process.
