Spotlight: Club of the Month

Meet The Greyhound, October's OSE Club of the Month! This RSO was started at Loyola in 1927, and it is the Loyola community's online, student-run newspaper. Featuring news, sports, arts, eats, opinions, health, travel, and more, The Greyhound aims to present accurate and educational information to Loyola students, faculty, administrators, Board of Trustees, alumni, and friends of the university.

From writing, to editing, to everywhere in between, The Greyhound provides opportunities for Loyola students to get involved and gain experience in working with a team and producing a newspaper. Whether you are interested in joining The Greyhound's staff or having your own event covered in the newspaper, you can attend their weekly meetings (Mondays, 6:30-8:00pm in Beatty Hall 114) or reach out to April Hartman (greyhoundeic@gmail.com), The Greyhound's Editor-In-Chief, and learn about ways to get involved.

Throughout the year, The Greyhound will be following stories and covering events happening on and around Loyola's campus. This semester, specifically, The Greyhound is looking forward to covering the Presidential Inauguration of Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., among other things.

Stay in touch with Loyola's news, events,, and more by checking out The Greyhound online at https://thegreyhound.org/site/ and following them on Instagram @thegreyhoundnews.

Reminder: don't forget to submit an application on The Bridge to give your club or organization a chance to be featured in next month's Club of the Month Spotlight! The deadline to apply is Friday, October 21st.

Tips & Tricks: The Bridge

  • When creating an event for your RSO, make sure you include your club/organization name in your event title (i.e., instead of putting "Meeting" as the title, write "Club Gymnastics Practice."
  • Do not mark off "TBD" when creating an event if location is unknown; leave everything unmarked and separately request a location in RSO/ASO Event Approval form. Events add the location into the event on The Bridge once they assign a location.
  • If your club/organization has created an event and has gotten that event fully approved but they realize they want to make an edit to the approved event, you must email Erin Misiorek (enmisiorek@loyola.edu). If you try to make a change on your own, the event will change to “Pending” and be pushed back through the workflow.
  • Please submit space/room requests for events at least 5-7 business days in advance (business days and business hours are Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).

A Message from April Hartman:

Hi, I’m April Hartman, SGA’s Director of Campus Outreach and a member of the class of 2023. If you have questions about things like clubs, campus activities, or events, I’d be happy to help! If you have questions about anything else, please feel free to contact me and I can connect you with people who can give you answers. My goal is to help everyone feel at home at Loyola, so let me know what I can do for you!

Club and Organization Posting Policies

Take some time to review the Posting Policy, found on the RSO website. So far this semester, we've seen a handful of flyer violations posted on painted surfaces in addition to flyers without stamp approval from our office. With further questions, feel free to reach out to Natalie (nfcummins@loyola.edu) or Jack (jlyeager@loyola.edu) and visit https://bridge.loyola.edu/rso/documents/.

SGA Funding

Be sure to review the SGA Appropriations website and by-laws before completing a funding request! With further questions, feel free to reach out to Alexa (ajjunikiewicz@loyola.edu) or Erin (enmisiorek@loyola.edu) and visit https://bridge.loyola.edu/sga/resources/

Create a Relay for Life Team for your Club!

Relay For Life is an international, community- based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Each spring, a large committee of Loyola students puts on a 12-hour event that raises funds and awareness for cancer research while honoring those affected by cancer.

We are already working towards our fundraising goal of $100,000 and would love your club to help us reach it. Go to relayforlife.org/loyolamd and click “Join this Relay”. From there, you will be able to create a new team for your club or join one that has already been created. It is $15 to sign up for the event, but we strongly encourage members of your club to fundraise further. Remember, this is a great cause!

Our big event will be on April 1st, 2023, and we hope you and your club will join us in the fight against cancer. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Relay for Life recruitment chairs, Kelsey McCoy (krmccoy@loyola.edu) and Julia Smith (jdsmith1@loyola.edu). Thank you!
