The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures prepares students to live, work, and lead as informed citizens in an increasingly diverse world through the study of languages, literatures, and cultures. Through language study and experiential learning opportunities, students develop competence to communicate effectively in culturally sensitive ways and gain a genuine appreciation of difference. With a focus on social justice and community, the department strives to foster a diverse and inclusive learning environment. To that end, our faculty is committed to educating and empowering students to serve as engaged members of a modern global society, supporting the core values and mission of a Jesuit education.
