  • About the Society

The Sellinger Scholars Society, established in May 2023, is a prestigious organization founded by Matthew Rogers, Lynne Elkes M.B.A., and Dr. Irem Demirkan Ph.D. An addition to the Sellinger Scholars Program, the society is dedicated to fostering a community of scholars and leaders who share a passion for learning, collaboration, and positive societal impact. At its core, the Sellinger Scholars Society aims to provide a platform for high-achieving individuals who exemplify exceptional academic prowess, leadership skills, and a profound dedication to making a difference in their respective fields. The founders envisioned a space where like-minded individuals could come together to exchange ideas, engage in collaborative projects, and inspire one another to reach new heights of intellectual and professional achievement.

  • Philosophy and Values

The program adheres to the Jesuit values of cura personalis, cultivating the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, magis, dedication to the greater good for the whole person, commitment to ethical behavior, and justice and equal opportunity for all people. The program’s philosophy is predicated on each member being willing to learn and lead at the highest level, acting as SSBM emissaries to the Loyola community and the Baltimore community at large. The program views each student as a vessel of growth and change and therefore aims to utilize all academic and non-academic resources to provide the foundation for students to realize their best selves. Developing the qualities of strength, resilience, and dedication to life-long learning in our students during their undergraduate careers at Loyola will prepare SSP alumni to successfully adapt to a constantly changing business environment.

  • Authority

The authority of this constitution is the basis for the conduct of all business in the undergraduate Sellinger Scholars Program.

  • Purposes

ACADEMIC SUPPORT: The Society provides a supportive academic environment where Sellinger Scholars can engage in collaborative learning, exchange ideas, and receive mentorship from fellow members and SSP alumni. It serves as a platform for academic discussions, study groups, and knowledge sharing related to business and related disciplines.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The Society offers opportunities for Sellinger Scholars to enhance their professional skills and engage in experiential learning. This may include organizing workshops, seminars, and visits by industry professionals, alumni, and faculty members. The Society may also facilitate networking events, internships, and career development resources to help members explore and prepare for future business careers.

COMMUNITY BUILDING: The Sellinger Scholars Society fosters a sense of community among its members. It encourages social interaction, team building, and collaboration through various activities, such as social events, community service projects, and group outings. These initiatives create a supportive network of peers and promote a strong bond within the Sellinger Scholars community.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: The Society provides Sellinger Scholars with opportunities to develop leadership skills. Members can take more significant roles in shaping the club's direction, planning events, and contributing to its overall success. It may offer positions on an executive board, where members can take on responsibilities such as organizing events, managing projects, and leading initiatives. By engaging in these roles, Scholars can enhance their leadership abilities and contribute to the growth of the Society.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & COMMUNITY OUTREACH: The Society maintains a connection with the Campus as well as the Baltimore community, inviting them to events, panel discussions, or networking opportunities. Members will be required to attend cultural events (effective Spring ‘24), fulfill community service requirements, and attend Scholars events (as outlined by the Sellinger Scholars’ Academic Director). This helps create a valuable network that can provide guidance, mentorship, and career advice to current Sellinger Scholars.

PERSONAL GROWTH: The Sellinger Scholars Society aims to facilitate the personal growth and holistic development of its members. It may organize activities that focus on personal well-being, self-improvement, and fostering a balanced lifestyle. This could include workshops, mindfulness sessions, and discussions on personal development topics.

  • General Business of the Society

The General Business of the Society is conducted by the Academic Director and Associate Dean of the Scholars Program with the assistance of our Student Executive Board.  This new initiative aims to foster a stronger sense of community and collaboration among Sellinger Scholars and other students on campus who share the same passion for knowledge and leadership. Through this Affiliate Student Organization, you will have the opportunity to engage in diverse extracurricular activities, participate in exclusive workshops and events, and forge connections with like-minded individuals. We believe this expansion will further enhance the Sellinger Scholars experience, and we cannot wait to see the positive impact it will have on our vibrant academic community. As an Affiliate Student Organization, we will have a place on "The Bridge" as well as a Student Leadership Team, which is included on the left-hand column.
