Hi fellow Greyhounds! My name is Annabella Smith, and I am running for the Student Government Association's Class of 2029 Assembly! I am a psychology major from Baltimore, Maryland. My other campus involvement includes being a Greyhound Ambassador, a HAP Evening Events Committee member, a member of the Dance Company, and a member of the Italian Club. My goal in running for SGA Assembly is to increase my involvement on campus and develop a sense of community within my class. After a year at Loyola, I have a better idea of what students find enjoyable, what unites them, and how valuable it is to have events that allow everyone to participate and meet new people. I want to know personally what kinds of events and activities my classmates would truly like if I were chosen. Whether it's a cookout, DIY craft night, movie night, or something else different, I want our activities to represent the interests of our class. Additionally, I would love to collaborate with other class years to organize larger activities that unite everyone. Above all, I want to be someone my classmates can rely on. I want to listen to you and make sure your voice is heard, whether you have a problem, an idea for an event, or simply something you think could improve our college experience. I'm thrilled about the chance to make our sophomore year more memorable, enjoyable, and connected!
My name is Blaise D.K.T. Jones, class of 2029, and I’m running for SGA’s assembly! When I look back on my first year, though there were many highs, I also remember the many times I felt out of place, directionless, and disconnected from the campus. Especially in this rapidly changing world, feeling like everything was unfamiliar and overwhelming got pretty tough at times. It’s largely because of my experiences as a freshman that I want to help enhance the community here by serving on SGA. In assembly, I would not only listen to what students have to say and want changed, I would use my position as an editor and reporter for The Greyhound to visibly platform your concerns. I'd also place a primary focus on uplifting student organizations, the heart of Loyola. I’d do this first by working to make it even easier for students to connect with communities, and second by encouraging even more collaborations between clubs. I love the way student organizations here coordinate with each other and build layered networks, and I think striving for a thoroughly interwoven community is a great goal for improving the environment here on campus. Expanding on this, I would like to elevate a specific section of student organizations if elected to assembly. With the community engagement organizations at Loyola diverging, I think SGA should help these clubs get all the support they need. If elected, I would like to strongly back engagement with the Baltimore community, encourage initiatives that prioritize empathy and helping the less fortunate, and invest into connecting students with the city and people around them through transportation and community service events. As a student at Loyola, one of my favorite things about our community is that there is something here for everyone. I was lucky as a freshman to find amazing friends, opportunities to get involved with my interests, and places where I felt like I belonged. However, I know that it is not always easy to find your people or a place where you are comfortable being yourself. I am running because I want to make sure that all of my fellow students get a chance to find their own sense of belonging. If I am elected, I want to prioritize events that encourage people to get out of their comfort zone and get involved. Meeting new people and building connections across campus is such a great way to discover personal communities and to feel the school spirit of our larger Loyola community. I think that it is so important that everyone feels welcome here and is able to remember Loyola as a place where they were able to find and feel like themselves.
I'm from Lafayette, Louisiana. I love traveling, meeting new people, and trying new things. I was a part of SGA in high school and loved to be a part of the behind the scenes and enjoyed watching everything come together. I would be honored to have the opportunity to make a similar impact on Loyola. I personally have had a great Loyola experience and found my home away from home. It would warm my heart to be able to give that feeling to my peers. If I get this position for SGA, I will listen to the student body to help come up with creative and memorable events to make your experience at Loyola worthwhile. I will also make sure all students feel seen, appreciated, and heard because your voice matters. Loyola would not be the same without our amazing community, and I want to give back and show my appreciation in any way that is possible.
